Patriot Program Requirements:
Fourth Grade
The fourth grade students who wish to participate in the Patriot Program will have the opportunity to choose and complete four activities in any order from the list below. All activities need to be completed by April 29, 2011.
1. Play your band/string instrument for Miss Carey, to the tune of "Maryland My Maryland"
2. Write to a Maryland politician about an issue.
3. Identify major Maryland symbols.
Create a poster including the following Maryland symbols:
Flower Song Maryland flag Tree Reptile Bird Dog
4. Locate Harford County, Annapolis, Washington D.C., the Chesapeake Bay and the Susquehanna River on a map. (When given a blank map of the region, the student should be able to show where each is located.)
5. Research and make a poster or write a report on a Maryland historic site.
Select an historic site in Maryland and write a report or create a poster giving at least ten facts about the site. Suggestions for an historic site: St. Mary’s City, the Shot Tower, Fort McHenry, Antietam National Battlefield & Cemetery, the state capital building, or any other site the student would like to learn about.
6. Name Maryland Government officials.
The student should be able to respond correctly to the volunteer when asked to name the following Maryland officials.
Governor
Lt. Governor
U.S. Senators from Maryland
U.S. Representative for our district
Harford County Executive
Harford County State Senators
7. Explain in one written paragraph why Maryland is called, "America in Miniature."
